Geographical Layout
The Northwest region is one of the most diverse geographic regions in the United States. It is creased with several mountain ranges, including: the Coast Mountains, the Cascade Mountain Range, the Olympic Mountains, the Columbia Mountains and the Rocky Mountains. On the East side of the Cascade Range the mountains converge into a broad plateau, narrowing progressively northwards and upwards producing a scenic red canyon of cliffs and valleys.
Climate
The coastal aspect of this region experiences an oceanic climate characterized by a high amount of rainfall, in some areas more than 300 cm (120 inches) per year and moderate temperatures in both the summer and winter months (between 10-24°C). From the Cascade and Coast Mountains East toward the interior of the U.S. this region experiences a more semi-arid to arid climate with desert like conditions.
Business and Industry
Here the innovative technology sector meets the great outdoors; Agriculture, Aerospace, Vineyards, Fishing, Lumber, Technology, Mining, and Outdoor Tourism are the “Industry Bigs” in this particular area of the U.S. Its large Seaport provides an impressive hub for import/export. The Northwest’s impressive industry portfolio gives this region a durable economic base.
Beyond Business
Massive temperate rain forests and a conglomerate of mountain ranges make this region an outdoorsman’s paradise. Skiing, boating, hiking, camping, river rafting, ice hockey, paragliding… you name it this region has it. Overall good school systems and community profiles make it one of the nicest areas in America to call home.
Culture
The pulse of the Northwestern United States is an environmentally conscientious one. Recycling and conservation are high on the priority lists of this regions inhabitants and politicians. Public transportation is well developed as a result of this regions desire to cut down on carbon emissions and gas usage. The NW region also offers a palatable selection of authentic cuisine because of its international draw of foreign immigrants. Birkenstocks and sensible comfort are to this region as high fashion and high heels are to New York.
